I´ve started to learn 3D modeling through this site a few years ago. Had a long break for 1-2 years, I´ve got a social life with a wonderful girlfriend. Anyway enough talking about that stuff.

Now I´m back into 3D and it seems it ain't so many people around anymore. Or it´s just me? It was a great place let´s say 5 years back, but now... What do you guys say?

Some of the oldies here might remember me as Eliminator, changed to a new nick when I logged in.

Got some old threads still active on forum as a flashback =)

To bad most of the pictures arent active anymore

Anyway, I´m glad to be back from where I started and I still see some old members are active! :D

Good to see you back, I think I remember the name from when I first joined. Yeah the palace has changed, but it's not for lack of trying. Cris and the team are still kicking out brilliant stuff. Getting people to pay for anything these days is the problem.

Yeah Palace is not as active as it used to be, unfortunately :(

I guess time, for most people (including myself), is starting become hard to find - and as we all know, the current economy is making money a rare commodity indeed.
Palace still has tons to offer, though - that is one thing that hasn't changed in all the time I've frequented this place :)

Wish I had more time to devote to 3D, but with the youngling's arrival, spare time is rare - plus the fact that when I do have some spare time, I'd like to spend it on projects that go a bit further than just to my fileserver to collect dust.
A collaborative project as well as the prospect of some socializing with some like-minded people might entice me to drag myself out of my hiatus though :D

Cris! I say we try mounting a collective Palace effort into something that could be a fun and learning experience! <swift kick to the arse, followed by a headless escape behind the nearest couch>

Anyone up for mounting a team for something fun? And any suggestions? Could be a game, an animated short, or whatever!

Let's drag out the dusty guitar, build a campfire and roast some marshmellows and sing Kumbaya in a social circle :P (Cris will supply the booze and the lapdancers)

I like the animated short team idea. It would be fun to have everyone from the site working together on a project.

The site could probably be helped some with better search engine optimization (SEO). I just checked and if you type 3ds max tutorials into google 3d-palace doesn't even rank, and that is just one example.

Search Engine
Google
Placed
no
Rank
n/a
Competing Pages
15,100,000

Also I don't see any keywords in the index of the site and the ones in the forum itself could be better.

I know the keywords are not the only thing that search engines go by, but it may help.

Tell me about it. The community works better when people use it ;) Its good to see you back. Make suggestions on ways I can get more people in and I will take them into consideration definately. And anyone good at SEO is more than welcome to help me out - seriously.

Glad to see you back, and am enjoying the flashbacks. I'm still trying to be active here, but working long shifts between two jobs really puts a damper on my 3D and free time. Let alone anything social! But I digress, Its good to see more people back! Looking forward to more!

I still visit the Palace once a day but I don't do as much 3d as I was few years ago, sadly. I don't know why: maybe a somwehere between not enough time and low motivation.

I sometimes wonder if its the bleak forum that puts people off a bit too.

Couldn't a collective project effort motivate people? :P

I agree with budweizzer, not enough time and/or motivation. I've been doing 3ds max as a hobby and - well, in 2009, I was laid off from my job. Spent a year looking for work - that killed my spare time - and then had a year as a high school physics teacher. Man, talk about a life and hobby killer. Geez, my day started at 5 am and by the time I finished the school day, grading and planning the next day, it was 10 pm and I just had to hit the sack. Even weekends were killed.

As a result, I got out of the habit. But, I'd like to get back into it, just that motivation is a bore. Maybe that's my age talking.

I'll hafta try again tonight, now that I've got a regular job again - I ran screaming from teaching - maybe that'll get the juices flowing and pique my interest again.

If I can tear myself away from Spore, that is...
